William A. Wilson - Landsman

William A. Wilson was born circa 1848 in New York and enlisted on 17 February 1864 the New York, NY Naval Rendezvous as an Landsman for a 1 year enlistment[1].

Per his rendezvous index card [2], Wilson served aboard the U.S.S. Peterhoff, U.S.S. Florida, U.S.S. Minnesota, U.S.S. Proteus, U.S.S. Tecumseh, U.S.S Philadelphia and was discharged from the Navy on 14 February 1865 at Philadelphia, PA. Per the Philadelphia's muster roll, it appears that he and John J. Kirk exchanged places while the two ships were at Hampton Roads.

His name is listed in Officers and Enlisted Men who Died in the Active Service of the U.S. Navy 1776-1885 as having died in action aboard the Tecumseh on 5 August 1864, though this is incorrect since it was Landsman John Wilson who died aboard her.
