James McDonald - Seaman

James McDonald was born circa 1831 in Islip, New York and enlisted on 12 April 1864 at the New York Naval Rendezvous as a Seaman for a 2 year enlistment[1].

McDonald was attached to the U.S.S. Tecumseh on 20 April 1864. [2]

McDonald was one of the survivors of the sinking of the Tecumseh on 5 August 1864. He was picked up from the water by Acting ENS Henry Clay Nields' cutter from the Metacomet [3], [4].

Per his rendezvous index card, McDonald was next attached to the U.S.S. Hartford. He deserted from the Navy on 31 March 1865 in New York [2].
