George Major - Seaman

George Major was born circa 1830 in England and enlisted on 28 April 1864 aboard the U.S.S. Minnesota as a Seaman for a 2 1/3 year enlistment[1]. He was prior Army who was transfered to the Navy.

Sometime in June or July, Major was ordered to the U.S.S. Tecumseh.

Major was one of the survivors of the sinking of the Tecumseh on 5 August 1864. He was picked up from the water by Acting ENS Henry Clay Nields' cutter from the Metacomet [4], [4].

Per his rendezvous index card, Major was next attached to the U.S.S. Hartford [2].
