Henry L. Bartholomew - Landsman

Henry L. Bartholomew was born circa 1842 in New Haven, Connecticut, United States and enlisted on 28 November 1863 at the New York Naval Rendezvous as a landsman for a 1 year term.[1]

Bartholomew served on U.S.S. Kensington until he was attached to the U.S.S. Tecumseh on 20 April 1864. Sometime before 5 August 1864, he detached from her and ordered to the U.S.S. Canonicus with the rating of surgeon's steward (predecessor to modern hospital corpsman rating). [2]

Bartholomew was not present at the Battle of Mobile Bay, having been detached from the Tecumseh sometime before 5 August 1864 despite having been listed on the Tecumseh casualty list published in the 10 December 1864 issue of Army and Navy Journal. [3]
